My aunt celebrated her 60th birthday a couple of weeks ago. I had my mind put on drawing something "green" with watercolor, since green has always been her favorite color. And since I always had the feeling that I have problems with painting a nice looking green, I chose some cherries as reference. With some red in it, I felt more secure. I got ready just in time, working a little in the night and early morning.
I went to a figure drawing evening class this week. It felt really good doing this after a long, long, way too long time. God, I missed it so much. I was excited the whole evening!
While drawing, my thougths were with my friends from animation school hamburg. What a great time we had there and all the things we've learned! I tried to recall everything Maksa and Leonid tought us. But now that Maksa and even Harald Siepermann have passed away way too young, there's always a sad undertone to the memory about the gorgeous time we all had there. Even if the time we shared with those people was quite short, they became our mentors, our idols, our friends and they helped us getting one step further towards our dreams. And therefore I am very grateful.
At the moment I am using a brown paper sketchbook with bare paperboard, which was staring at me blankly every day and saying "Put something nice here. Yes, right here.". After I got obsessed with grumpy cat, it was crystal clear...
Last year I was asked to design a female shrimp character for a shrimp breeding shop. So I want to show some various sketches and stages of the aquatic pet (I mixed vector outlines with water color as well as digital color)! Another one with a ribbon would be the lady pug, which was just a quick fun illustration :)
Since I am working at HandyGames there is very little time for personal projects..I am sorry for my long absence! But recently someone asked me to do flower illustrations and I came up with the idea of japanese ink painting (sumi-e). I mainly copied pictures I found. Was a nice exercise though :-)
and there's also one digital approach, more like a sketch though
Since my right arm started aching again a while ago, I was busy keeping it calm while studying animation and art (yes, I watched cartoons and read manga, but with a very observing eye ;D). After a while of non-creating I couldn't stand it anymore and grabbed my water colors and water color sketchbook an experimented a bit with them. Working without a certain shape was perfect, so I couldn't be disappointed too much in my disability. Yet in the end I was drawn back to painting faces...
